Diabetes

Type 1 Diabetes

Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune condition where the immune system destroys the cells within the pancreas that produce insulin. The cause of this autoimmune response is still unknown. Type 1 diabetes is not linked to lifestyle factors, there is no non cure and it cannot be prevented.

Type 1 diabetes is managed with insulin injections several times a day. While your lifestyle choices did not cause type 1 diabetes, the choices made now can reduce the impact of diabetes-related complications.
