Thyroid Conditions

Hyperthyroidism

Hyperthyroidism is a condition of the thyroid gland, where the thyroid makes more thyroid hormones than your body needs. Thyroid hormones control the way the body uses energy, so they affect nearly every organ in your body. If left untreated, hyperthyroidism can cause serious problems with the heart, bones, muscles, menstrual cycle, and fertility.

Treatment of hyperthyroidism can include medication, radioactive iodine and/or surgery. The aim of treatment is to regulate thyroid hormone levels to prevent long-term health problems.
